Study Theatre at Grenfell

Theatre at Grenfell is a four year BFA program with a focus on the practice of the theatre arts. As a theatre student, you will choose to study either acting or stagecraft, both of which will challenge you to push your boundaries, hone your craft and prepare you for full-scale production. You will be taught by actors, directors, designers and technicians with extensive professional experience.

Your acting classes will begin with the fundamentals: voice, movement, and speech. These skills will be used to enhance further scene study, performance technique, and live performance. If you choose stagecraft as your discipline, you will receive training in the core skills of technical theatre – lighting, sound, wardrobe, props, carpentry, drafting, scenic painting, and stage management – each semester.

Through lecture courses in Dramatic Literature, and Theatre and Art History, and studio lab courses and master classes in both acting and stagecraft, we want to develop in you an educated imagination. You will be given opportunities to express your passion and creativity through involvement in the four full-scale productions we present each year. Your training will culminate at our Harlow Campus in England, where you will rehearse your final production for eight weeks while exploring Europe, learning from working professionals from West End Theatres in London, and experiencing some of the best theatre in the world.

Our acting alumni have found success on stage and in front of the camera in award-winning theatre, television and film productions. Our stagecraft grads have been working professionally as stage managers, lighting designers, scenic artists, technical directors, props makers, riggers, operations coordinators, events planners, theatre educators, camera operators and many other positions in movie/TV production and entertainment industry.

Others graduates have used this strong educational foundation to pursue further studies in theatre or other areas including education and law.

Application deadline for the acting stream is March 31, while our stagecraft program will next be accepting applications for the fall of 2015.
