Student Housing provides a variety of opportunities for students to get involved. These represent great ways to impact student lives, develop leadership competencies, and expand intercultural communication skills.
Live-in Staff: One way to get involved is to join our staff as a residence assistant (RA) or a chalet advisor (CA). These are eight-month positions throughout the academic year. These live-in positions are good opportunities for students to get
involved in programming, mediating conflicts among residents, educating residents about policies and regulations and responding to student concerns and emergencies. If you are interested, please contact the housing staff to get more information about any available position and dates for the selection process. Detailed Position descriptions are available at the housing office.
Housing Councils: Another way to get involved is to be a member of the Residence or Chalet council. These organizations promote a positive living and learning atmosphere in the residence and chalets by providing a forum for discussion of issues relevant to residents. They also serve as a liaison between residents and housing staff, and provide an environment which encourages programming and a sense of community among all residents. It is an opportunity to have a say in issues related to your housing area. If you want to get more information, meet with a housing staff or a council member or ask if you can attend one of the weekly meetings.
Volunteer – Volunteer – Volunteer: The wide array of activities we offer in student housing are organized by the live-in staff and a group of volunteers. If you want to get involved in an informal leadership opportunities, learn communication skills, develop and take charge of a project in your free time to benefit the community, go to your RA and CA and show interest. They will be able to hook you up with a project that meets your needs and goals. Spending half an hour to help set up for a program or taking a lead in organizing an event would benefit you personally and provide you with valuable skills for future employment.
